Explore the Museum of Occupations and Freedom Fights in Vilnius, located in the former KGB headquarters. This 1-hour guided tour offers a unique insight into Lithuania’s struggle under Soviet repression from 1940 to 1991. Learn about the NKVD/NKGB/MGB/KGB’s actions, including deportations, arrests, and the persecution of dissidents, and understand the nation’s fight to restore independence.
Visit the basement, formerly a KGB prison, featuring interrogation cells, solitary confinement cells, and an execution chamber. On the first floor, discover documents, photographs, maps, and artifacts illustrating the Sovietization of Lithuania in 1940–1941, as well as the partisan war of 1944–1953, including the organization, daily life, and aspirations of freedom fighters.
The second floor presents exhibits on deportations to Siberia, imprisonment in the Gulag (1944–1956), unarmed civil resistance, and KGB activities from 1954 to 1991. A restored telephone conversation listening room displays original listening equipment, furniture, and interior details.
